Siemmarat 1g
Tourists flock to Siem Reap – but not for oud.
You may have heard the stories of travelers who have eagerly tried to buy oud oil or chips on their trips to Angkor Wat but left empty-handed because, as they discovered, there is hardly any agarwood in Siem Reap.
That’s why you never hear about oud from here, or about any oud from Northern Cambodia…
The most famous provinces, and also the ones where there are concerted agarwood cultivation efforts picking up are further down on the map.
The most famous jungles in Cambodian oud history, places like Pursat, Koh Kong, and Pailin, are neighbors the way Rayong, Prachinburi, and Trat are in Thailand. Hotspots in the country that are prime ground for growing oud.
That’s why Siem Reap is such an odd-ball delight. This oud treats you to a incense cool crassna experience where you’d normally smell more red-yellow hued, jam-fruity profiles from southern jungles instead. But it’s not just a new scent profile to bliss out on.
This is an easy-to-wear oud. A lovely daily swiper. The cooling aroma smells a touch tart with a bite akin to the sweet, slightly bitter taste of guava. The pleasant breeze of oud-incense has nothing scorched about it. It’s not a crass, burning smell, but a delicate bottling of the sweet top notes you bliss out on when the first vapor starts to fly from top-notch Cambodian oud chips.
The guava green piercing profile is simple and straightforward and lets you feast on the recurring incense-cool theme song on repeat for hours.
I’d normally recommend an oud like Oud Yusha or Oud Yaqoub as an oud to wear anywhere. A scent that’s accessible, easily enjoyable, a no-frill easy-to-like sweet profile, especially to anyone new to oud.
But Siemmarat easily steals the title. An everyday wear – plus the added soul only wild-harvested Cambodian oud artisanally distilled could impart. And at this price to boot……
Siemmarat was brewed in our custom-built distillery in the heart of Cambodia, set up just before the first lockdown. Oils like Bliss du Boche and Siem Reap are its predecessors, and the quality is every bit on point.
You may have noticed that our Cambodian ouds the past couple of years focussed on co-distillations. This time, the eccentric green incense aroma that oozes from Siemmarat is courtesy of a focused distillation of exclusively Siem Reap agarwood that takes weeks to capture in the custom setup designed to draw out the…… unconventional.
